Do general placement and generally rotate it into place. Load up a low poly version of your set and move that shit into place with the 3D tab and quad view. Make sure your backplate and lens is correct from the notes. I'm using the latest SE build if that helps. Please could someone explain it, or point me in the direction of a tutorial that covers it specifically. For some reason I just can't get my head round those specific pages in the manual. Most of them cover object tracking but not alignment the camera to existing geometry. There are a lot of tutorials out there but I cant find any that cover it. I know it is possible to align the scene to LIDAR geomtry (not points) but I just can't work it out. A very manual proccess, but I do a lot of static camera matching in my job so the results have worked fairly well so far. I'm fine on the tracking side and can achieve the right scale (based on the Lidar impoted into SE) and a rough alignment then export, but I have mainly been aligning the solve in Lightwave. My solve has to be in its 'real world position'. The match needs to be aligned perfectly (across the whole city skyline, not just the localised site, if possible) with existing geometry that cannot be relocated. We use a 3d Model of the city we work in, that is reasonably accurate (geometry from LIDAR) for all of our Architectural work.

I have reasonable experience with Syntheyes but mainly for VFX scenes that can easily built or tweaked around the match. Hey r/VFX, I'm working at an Arch Viz company and sometimes do tracking for our aerial footage, in Syntheyes, to export to Lightwave or Modo or sometimes Max).
